Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What has to happen in order to adopt a Dog from DFWSDR?
A: Many of the same common sense things that would go into adopting a child. Some or all of the following could occur.
- Verification of how you treat your other animals (if any) and specifically what kind of medical care you will provide for them. Often this is accomplished with a call to your veterinarian. Agreement allowing us to talk to your vet will have to be given.
- An adoption fee will be required.
- A meeting with fostering parent's to see how you get along with and handle the dog.
- Verification and suggestions for the environment where the dog will be kept. This is usually done by an onsite visit by one of our staff. Things we look for are items such as a good fence ( Siberians are known escape artists - esp. females and have a wanderlust), a proper sized and constructed dog crate for when you have to crate for discipline or in some cases when you are away. This visit helps to identify items that could potentially cause a bad adoption or injury to the dog.
- Recommendations for the care, feeding and ongoing maintenance of a snowdog
- A date - to see how the adopting and the adoptees get along over a couple of days. Our fosters are ready for any questions the adopting owners would have during this time ( Is ... normal?, how do I handle...?).
- and ...if everything works out properly (you like the dog, the dog likes you,...,etc), the adoption can be completed. As always, a relation ship is forged between DFWSDR, the Adoptee, and the adopting owner. We don't just throw you to the Snowdogs.
