A new outlook on Siberian Husky rescue

An overwhelming and unending love of Siberian Huskies led a small group of people to establish DFW Snow Dog Rescue in 2006. Our goal is to made sure that no Siberian is euthanized in a Metroplex shelter simply because an adoptive family could not be found quickly enough. We are dedicated to the belief that helping pets helps people, and that any life is too precious to throw away when a bit of love can save it!

DFW Snow Dog Rescue is a nonprofit, all-volunteer, foster-based, no-kill rescue group for Siberian Huskies and other Northern breeds that may need our assistance. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation registered with the Texas Secretary of State, all money raised through adoption fees, donations and fund raising goes directly to medical care for our rescued dogs and is tax-deductive in accordance with IRS regulations.

Although our organization is new, we have many years of combined experience in animal rescue. Our organization is made up completely of volunteers who open their hearts and homes to foster the dogs we remove from area shelters. All rescued dogs are checked by veterinarians, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and placed in foster homes as a member of the family. That way we can work with them on social skills and good manners, see how they interact with both people and other animals, and generally get a good idea of their temperament. We feel that a foster-based rescue program offers a big advantage when it comes to really knowing the dogs and predicting where they can most successfully be placed into a forever home.

Because we are foster-based, there is no shelter facility. We don’t have a central location to come visit the dogs and we do not have regular visiting hours. If you are interesting in one of our dogs, you must complete an application and be pre-approved prior to meeting any of the dogs. The purpose of this application process is to learn more about your family’s needs in a companion animal so that any placement we make is more likely to be successful. After all, not all dogs get along well with other dogs, with young children or cats, and so on. By applying first, you won’t invest time and effort in a dog that would not fit your lifestyle, and we can help you select one who will.

We are a no-kill rescue. Once dogs are in our program they are safe in their foster homes until they are adopted. We do not euthanize any dogs to make room or because they have been in the program a long time awaiting adoption.

DFW Snow Dog Rescue believes that those with special needs and senior citizens (people as well as dogs) benefit from a healthy, loving relationship between adoptive “parents” and companion animals. Thus we strive to accommodate a diversity of needs and ages in our dogs as well as those with whom they are placed. We also strongly support spaying and neutering all pets to cut down on the huge number of animals who are euthanized every day. All our adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered and we encourage the same for other animals in the adopter’s household.

Because we are new and growing, we need both volunteers and foster families to help us help the dogs. If you can spare even a few hours a month or have room for another four-footed family member, we would love to have you join us. If you are looking for a new Siberian to join your family permanently, please complete the Foster/Adoption application.

When contacting us by phone or e-mail, remember we are volunteers who all work full-time jobs and have families and Siberian Huskies of our own, so please be patient. You will be contacted with a minimum of delay.

Thank you!
